A programme called “Early Career Award Hatem B’Taher” for young teacher- researchers will be launched in mid-April, Secretary of State to the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research announced on Friday.

“The aim of this programme is to finance the research projects of young teacher-researchers in order to enable them to take advantage of international opportunities,” Amiri added on the sidelines of a co-operation meeting between Tunisia and The European Union held at the Pasteur Institute, in the presence of the European Commissioner for Research, Science and Innovation, Carlos Moedas.

The programme targets about 100 beneficiaries per year and mobilised a million-dinar budget, he said, adding that it will allow direct funding for teacher-researchers from interior regions.

At this meeting, European Research Commissioner Carlos Moedas stressed that Europe will always remain open to Tunisian students and researchers and will continue to provide financial support to Tunisia in the field of scientific research and innovation.

This meeting, held in the framework of the third Ministerial Conference on Research, Innovation and Higher Education of the Dialogue 5+5, brought together parliamentarians, representatives of civil society, presidents of Tunisian universities, professors and researchers.

It discussed the different challenges and problems facing the field of scientific research in Tunisia.
