Eastern Corridor Road Accident Victims: Three Identified, Two Remain Unknown


Kadjebi: Three out of five persons, who lost their lives in a tragic accident at the Dodo-Pepesu portion of the Eastern Corridor Road in the Kadjebi District of the Oti Region on Wednesday, April 9, have been identified. The identified victims include Kwasi Owusu, 12 years-old, John Kpodo, 21-years-old, and Veronica Gadabor, 34 years, all from Dodo-Amanfrom in the Kadjebi District. Two victims remain unknown.



According to Ghana News Agency, of the fifty-three injured persons-47 from the VIP Bus with registration number GT 6598-10, which was coming from Bimbilla enroute to Accra via the Eastern Corridor Road, and 11 from the 207 Benz Bus with registration number GT 6151-U coming from Dodo-Amanfrom, a farming community in the Kadjebi District headed to market in Kpassah-14 are still hospitalized at St. Mary Theresa Catholic Hospital in Dodi-Papase, Kadjebi District. Mr. Norbert Apuri, the Hospital Manager of St. Mary Theresa Catholic Hospital, disclosed this information and appealed to the public to help identify the remaining deceased individuals.



Mr. Michael Zowonu, the Assemblyman for the Dodo-Amanfrom South Electoral Area, in an interview with Ghana News Agency concerning the accident, said that ‘nine passengers in the 207 Benz Bus from Dodo-Amanfrom to Kpassa’ were involved in the accident and that ‘three persons died instantly’. He stated that two of the deceased will be buried today, Monday, April 14, and preparations are currently ongoing before the agency’s call came through.



On Wednesday, April 9, a VIP Bus with registration number GT 6598-10, coming from the Nkwanta direction, collided head-on with a 207 Benz Bus with registration number GT 6151-U, which was travelling from the Kadjebi direction. An eyewitness, who wished to remain anonymous, told the Ghana News Agency that the VIP Bus swerved to avoid a pothole, and in the process, crashed into the 207 Benz Bus from the opposite direction.
