“Education for all to achieve sustainable development in Tunisia” (Hatem Ben Salem)

“Tunisia is focusing on education for all to achieve sustainable development,” Education Minister Hatem Ben Salem said in his remarks to the 39th General Conference of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) Thursday in Paris.

Ben Salem, who led the Tunisian delegation attending the UNESCO General Conference, recalled Tunisia’s approach to education, which is based on equity and reinforcement of new technologies.

The education minister spoke of the ideological extremism faced by people around the world.

UNESCO is the best structure for sharing experiences and setting up joint programmes to ensure global security, he pointed out.

The 39th session of the General Conference of UNESCO started on October 30 and will continue until November 14.

“Its main task is to set the budget and the direction of the organisation’s programmes and activities for the next two years.”

The General Conference is also expected to approve, on November 10, the appointment of Audrey Azoulay as the new Director General of UNESCO for a four-year period.
