“EGOV Tunisia 2017” starts in Hammamet

The work of the conference “EGOV Tunisie 2017”, which is concerned with the study of governance as part of the new information systems supporting Smart Cities, started Friday afternoon.

Several researchers, academics from Tunisia, Mexico and European countries, in addition to representatives of civil society and public administration, take part in this three-day event.

Organising Committee chairman Ahmed Frechichi told TAP that this scientific event is an opportunity to raise awareness about the importance of being well prepared for the construction of smart cities. “Governments and decision-makers are called to work so as to integrate technological innovations into the daily life of the citizen and to benefit from it,” said the official.

He added that “the smart city is essentially a modern, developed and multi-dimensional city (organisational, political, economic and environmental aspects).

It is also a city that uses communication and information technologies to improve the quality of life of citizens through access to high-quality technological services and equipment, he said.

The official considered that the evocation of the smart city poses essentially concepts that concern open and intelligent governance based on the achievement of the principles of transparency when dealing with information related to the management of the city and the guarantee of services that the citizen needs.

For Frechichi, the concepts of Smart Cities should not be adopted only at the level of the capital and the major cities but rather adopting an innovative development plan at the level of all the regions of the country, and called (each region) to elaborate its urban, environmental and strategic development plan, while taking into account the fact that they are building new smart cities.

The conference programme includes a number of scientific components which mainly concern open governance, big data, social and strategic impacts in the field of governance.
