Election 2024: Hohoe Constituency Sees Intense Battle Between NPP and NDC

HOHOE: The upcoming parliamentary elections in Ghana's Hohoe Constituency are shaping up to be a fierce contest as the incumbent Member of Parliament, John-Peter Amewu of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), seeks to retain his seat amidst strong competition from Thomas Worlanyo Tsekpo of the National Democratic Congress (NDC). This race is part of a broader political narrative in Ghana that sees parties either retaining or regaining seats after electoral cycles. According to Ghana News Agency, Mr. Amewu, serving as the Railway Development Minister, has been endorsed to lead the NPP's charge in the 2024 elections. He highlights his developmental track record, which includes significant infrastructure projects like the Hohoe Sports Stadium and the Santa Esther Girls Senior High School, as key to his re-election campaign. Amewu's initiatives also extend to road improvements and educational support within the constituency. On the opposition side, Mr. Tsekpo emerged victorious in a competitive NDC primary. He aims to reclaim the Hohoe seat by emphasizing development and job creation. His "Water is Life" project, focusing on water infrastructure, along with community-driven initiatives like market renovations and educational sponsorships, form the cornerstone of his campaign. The NDC's Volta Regional Secretary, James Gunu, expressed confidence in Tsekpo's ability to resonate with the youth, while the NPP's Hohoe Constituency Chair, Anthony Kondobrey, lauded Amewu's visible developmental contributions. On the ground, voter sentiment appears split, with economic and educational development being pivotal factors influencing their decisions. Besides Amewu and Tsekpo, the People's National Convention and the National Democratic Party have also fielded candidates, adding to the electoral dynamics. As the December 2024 elections approach, both parties are ramping up their efforts to sway undecided voters and secure victory in this closely watched constituency.
