Emmanuel Macron visits Bardo National Museum

France’s President Emmanuel Macron, currently on a two-day state visit to Tunisia, headed late on Thursday morning for the Bardo National Museum where he laid a wreath before a commemorative stone erected in memory of the 22 victims – including four French nationals – of March 18, 2015 terrorist attack.

Macron took cognisance of the different components of the museum, home to archaeological finds including mosaics and sculptures dating back to the Roman and Paleo-Christian eras.

The French President’s guest book note reads: “In tribute to all victims of the Bardo attack and to all those affected by terrorism in Tunisia, I want to express France’s solidarity with and support to Tunisia and Tunisians. You came up with the most beautiful response: democracy, freedom, gender equality and culture. May it prevail and it will prevail Thank you for this example, long live friendship between France and Tunisia.

Macron also met, during this visit, with pupils enrolled at the French School in Tunis and Tunisian schools.

The visiting president was accompanied by Minister of Cultural Affairs Mohamed Zine El-Abidine, France’s Ambassador to Tunisia Olivier Poivre d’Arvor and Curator of the museum Fatma NaA�t Yghil.
