“Employment and Disability” Programme: beneficiaries demonstrate their seriousness (Imed Hammemi)

Minister of Employment and Vocational Training Imed Hammemi said on Tuesday that the beneficiaries of the pilot programme “Employment and Disability” which include 500 people who have demonstrated excellence and seriousness in their work.

Speaking at a national conference held at the Convention Centre on the theme “Employment and disability: towards a tripartite partnership between the public, the private sectors and civil society”, Hammemi said that the objective of this programme is to enable this category benefit from the attributes of decent work.

He added: “This programme aims to integrate them into the various sectors without restriction, to improve the support services for students with disabilities and to strengthen partnership between professional institutions, universities and institutions Training”.

The minister also stressed that instructions were sent to the different employment structures in order to give this category the necessary care that will help them integrate economic life.

In turn, Sami Ben JomAa, President of the Tunisian delegation of Handicap International, said that the programme, which started in 2014 and continued through 2018, has increased from 17% (2014) to 34% (2017) the number of young people enrolled in the employment offices of Gafsa, GabAs and Ben Arous.

Wided Bouchamaoui, President of the Tunisian Confederation of Industry, Trade and Handicrafts (UTICA), underlined her organization’s readiness to promote, through this programme, the socio-economic integration of people with specific needs.

Launched by the National Agency for Employment and Independent Labour (ANETI) in collaboration with Handicap International Tunisia, this programme is financed by the European Union and the French Development Agency and the Drosos Foundation. It brings together the public and private sectors and components of civil society.
