Ennaceur to MPs: it is your responsibility to elect remaining members of Constitutional Court

Speaker of the House of People’s Representatives (HPR), Mohamed Ennaceur said the presidents of parliamentary groups held 12 meetings to find a compromise that could pave the way for the election of four members of the Constitutional Court.

Mohamed Ennaceur was speaking on Wednesday at the opening of the plenary dedicated to the third and final round of voting for the election of the remaining members of the Constitutional Court.

In the last two rounds last week, only Nidaa Tounes’ candidate Raoudha Ouersghini was able to win the required majority of 145 votes.

It is you responsibility to ensure that the rest of the members of the Constitutional Court are elected today during this third and final round of voting, Ennaceur told MPs.

In his speech on Tuesday, on the 62nd anniversary of independence, President Beji CaA�d Essebsi expressed the wish to see the parliament manage in Wednesday’s plenary to elect the remaining members of the Constitutional Court.

He talked about the possibility of issuing bills for the election of members of the Constitutional Court by an absolute majority instead of the required majority of 145 votes.

The HPR has a total of 217 seats.
