Ennahdha movement announced in a statement Thursday the creation of a committee to manage the political crisis, which is chaired by a member of the party’s executive committee Mohamed Goumani.
The committee is temporary and has an exclusive mandate in the file. It is now the only official body that represents the movement. Any other position, initiative or declaration are by no means binding to the party, it said.
Its activities will come to an end once its mission is accomplished. Its members will try to find solutions and reach agreements likely to prevent any worst-case scenarios in the country and ensure the return to normal functioning of the institutions.
The party will focus on holding its 11th national congress as soon as possible so as to reconsider the choices and orientations it made, the same source added.
Party’s President Rached Ghannouchi will introduce changes to the governing structures which will be in harmony with the demands of the Tunisian citizens as well as the requirements of the new stage, the statement reads.
In the same statement, Ghannouchi expressed his full commitments to the party’s internal rules which restricts the movement’s presidency to two terms.
In its statement, the movement wondered about the reasons behind the delay in providing the roadmap for more than two weeks following the measures announced by the President of the Republic.
According to Ennahdha, the set of measures announced last July 25 were meant to break a vicious political and constitutional cycle and find solutions.
Ennahdha reiterates that some of the President’s decisions were a violation to the Constitution, expressing its readiness to prioritise the general interest, namely enforcing the law without any exception and prosecuting all those involved in corruption cases no matter their status is.
