Ennahdha urged Monday President Kais Saied to “lift the freeze on the parliament, name a technocratic prime minister and quickly return to constitutional order. ”

“Continued freeze is a threat to the democratic experience, a violation of rights and freedoms and an infringement on basic principles of the Republic and the separation of powers,” it said in a press release Monday following its executive bureau’s meeting on Friday.  The party also denounced ” repressive and unconstitutional measures such as house arrests and travel bans.”

The President of the Republic dismissed prime minister Hichem Méchichi on July 25, announced a freeze on the parliament and lifted MPs’ immunity pursuant to Article 80 of the Constitution.

Deputies and senior officials, including former ministers subject to legal action, were then put under house arrest.
