Establishment of Constitutional Authorities will be finalised end of 1st quarter of 2018 (MehdiBen Gharbia)

The process of setting up Constitutional Authorities will be finalised by the end of the 1st quarter of 2018, asserted Minister of Relations with Constitutional Authorities, Civil Society and Human Rights Mehdi Ben Gharbia.

In response to MPs’ questions on Thursday at the House of People’s Representatives (HPR), Ben Gharbia said that his department has started the development of a new draft law on political parties. A 1st consultation was conducted in September 2017 and a 2nd one is scheduled for the end of the current month.

The minister also pointed out that a draft law on racial discrimination is being worked out and will be submitted to the HPR next December.

At the same time, the department is working on a draft law on enforced disappearance and another on the protection of personal data.

He specified that 3,147 warnings were sent to associations for violation of the law. The ministry issued 270 requests for suspension of activities and 150 applications for dissolution of associations. He assured that the government is uncompromising towards suspected terrorist associations, refuting any intention to demonise the civil society.
