President of the Republic Kaïs Saïed had a meeting, on Friday in Brussels, with Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez, on the sidelines of the 6th European Union-African Union Summit.
The Head of State highlighted the historical ties between the two countries, stressing the need to further strengthen them and give a new impetus to economic, commercial and financial cooperation, the Presidency of the Republic said.
President Saïed said that the implementation of exceptional measures in Tunisia was aimed at saving the country and building a better future for the Tunisian people, ensuring the independence of justice and guaranteeing freedom, democracy, human rights and the fight against corruption.
The Head of State also reviewed the forthcoming events for which Tunisia is preparing in 2022.
For his part, the Spanish Prime Minister stressed Spain’s determination to promote its relations with the countries of the southern shore of the Mediterranean.
In this context, he recalled that his country is working to set up new partnership programmes with the southern Mediterranean countries, inviting Tunisia to propose its visions to take advantage of the latter.
Sanchez also expressed his government’s openness to any initiative to develop bilateral economic and trade relations, stressing the willingness to encourage Spanish companies to settle in Tunisia.
On another level, the Spanish Prime Minister stressed the importance of strengthening communication and dialogue between the two countries’ leaders in order to have a clear vision of the situation in Tunisia and to counter rumours and false information.
