Evacuation of 35 Students Stranded in Ukrainian City of Sumy (Ambassador)

The embassy of the Kingdom has mobilized all its resources to find a solution for these students so that they can leave Sumy, a city located on the Russian-Ukrainian border, said El Achabi, stressing that contacts have been maintained with them until they left this city bound for Poltava and then Lviv.

These students boarded the train, the safest way, and then traveled from Poltava to the city of Lviv, a journey that took 28 hours, the diplomat said.

Since the beginning of the crisis, said El Achabi, and in application of the High Royal Instructions, the embassy has created, in coordination with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccans Abroad, a crisis unit, operational 24 hours a day, in order to facilitate the operation of departure of Moroccan nationals from Ukraine, adding that more than 7,000 Moroccans were able to leave this country and return to the Kingdom.

She noted that the student evacuation operation was long and arduous due to the difficult negotiations that preceded the conclusion of a ceasefire agreement between Russia and Ukraine, noting that the embassy of Morocco and the crisis unit remained in constant contact with the Moroccan students until their arrival at a safe place.
