Ex-NSB Director and Wife’s Lawyers Accuse Attorney General of Baseless Looting Allegations

Accra: Lawyers for Kwabena Adu Boahene, the former Director of the National Signals Bureau, and his wife have accused the Attorney General of unfairly labeling them as guilty of state looting in public discourse. In a statement responding to a press conference by Dr. Dominic Ayine, the Attorney General and Minister of Justice, the lawyers criticized the AG for stating that their clients are still under investigation by the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO).

According to Ghana News Agency, the lawyers emphasized that investigations must be impartial to ensure citizens’ rights are protected. They insisted that the power to investigate any Ghanaian for alleged criminal offenses should be conducted without political bias and should protect the rights and reputations of citizens against abuse by state powers.

At the March 24, 2025, press conference, Dr. Ayine provided updates on Operation Recover All Loots (ORAL) and other investigations, including allegations against Adu Boahene and his wife, Angela Adjei Boateng. The AG alleged they had exploited state resources.

The lawyers refuted these claims, defending Adu Boahene as internationally networked and Angela as a successful businesswoman. They also dismissed claims that Adu Boahene disguised himself upon arriving at Kotoka International Airport, stating that he traveled in business class, contrary to the AG’s assertions.

The lawyers criticized Angela’s arrest on March 21, 2025, when she visited EOCO regarding her husband. They argued that individuals guilty of crimes do not voluntarily go to the place of their arrest, implying that the allegations against her were baseless.

The statement criticized the AG’s reliance on unverified claims and expressed concern over what they perceived as a biased media narrative lacking proof beyond reasonable doubt. The lawyers condemned the AG’s remarks about properties allegedly acquired after 2018 as unprofessional, politically motivated, and lacking verification.

They vowed to seek justice for their clients, expressing their belief in the rule of law and their intention to pursue legal redress in the appropriate forums.
