Export of Tunisian products set to rise in coming months (Minister)

“The export of Tunisian products, particularly those of interior regions will soon increase, Zied Laadhari, Minister of Industry and Trade said on Thursday, on the sidelines of a working visit to the Governorate of Beja to inspect the process of the tomato processing season in Medjez El Bab.

He noted that the objective is to improve the quality and productivity of Tunisian tomatoes and to reach 1,500 thousand tons of tomatoes packed against 500 thousand currently.

Farmers in that region spoke of problems related to water scarcity for tomato irrigation, which can lead to a 25% reduction in production and processing, as well as a lack of control over the sector’s activities to deter unfair competition.

Laadhari inaugurated a new sugar packing unit, belonging to the sugar factory of Beja. The unit has a production capacity of 60 thousand tonnes per year. It employs 38 people and will start marketing packed white sugar from the beginning of September.
