“Extension of state of emergency preventive measure pending important upcoming events” (Minister of Defense)

National Defense Minister Abdelkarim Zoubeidi told TAP on Saturday that the extension of the state of emergency for seven months is a preventive measure to meet the conditions for success of the next elections, including the municipal ballot, the tourist season and national exams.

“The situation on the borders is under total control thanks to the cooperation of the security and military institutions which are in state of readiness,” he said on the sidelines of the opening of the international seminar on “property mapping, physico-chemical soils “.

Zoubeidi declined any comment on the cases submitted to the military justice, stressing that it is “independent and no one can interfere in his prerogatives”.

Regarding the protest movement of young doctors, the minister said that the dialogue continues with the Ministry of Health on their demands, including “the search for acceptable solutions, given that military service is a national duty and constitutes today a solution to the lack of medical staff and specialist doctors in several regions “.

“Among the solutions envisaged is the reduction of the national service period to six months and the immediate recruitment of those who complete this service, in addition to a premium granted to doctors who pass their national service”, he revealed.

The international seminar on a research project “mapping the physico-chemical properties of soils using hyper spectral and infrared data” brings together for three days experts and academics from Arab and European countries.
