Fech Nestannew activists keep protesting against price hikes

Scores of students and activists of the Fech Nestannew (What Are We Waiting For?) campaign rallied anew on Friday in front of the headquarters of the Tunis governorate and the Municipal Theatre to demand the repeal of the 2018 Finance Law and consumer products price review.

Waving yellow cards, campaigners who saw civilian public figures join the protest called for demonstrators arrested recently to be set free and urged the government to reconsider its decisions.

Hamdi Ferchichi, one of the campaign leaders, said the government failed to respond to the demands of the people and called for policies that address the needs of the underprivileged categories to be put in place.

There was a heavy police presence in Habib Bourguiba avenue and its perpendicular and adjacent streets.

A string of recent arrests targeted campaign activists and members of the Popular Front as night-time protests were marked by acts of violence and vandalism.
