Accra: A 15-year-old Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) candidate, Mavis Agbo, from Takla-Tokor in the Ho Municipal area, is urgently seeking GHC 413,869.00 to undergo treatment for scoliosis, a condition affecting her spine.
According to Ghana News Agency, Mavis also requires approximately GHC 70,000 for medication and other supplementary expenses following the treatment. Her teacher, Mr. Edem Wisdom Nkornoo, has managed to raise GHC 5,000 towards her treatment. He revealed that Mavis’s condition started when she was in Primary Six, and in February of this year, she was taken to Ho Teaching Hospital. She was subsequently referred to FOCOS Orthopaedic Hospital in Accra for further treatment.
Mavis’s parents, who are farmers, have only been able to gather GHC 500, and the condition is impacting her preparation for the BECE. Mr. Nkornoo is appealing to individuals and corporate entities for assistance to support the girl’s treatment.
Mavis shared with the Ghana News Agency how her medical condition is hindering her dream of becoming a doctor, emphasizing the need to first complete her BECE. She is pleading for compassionate support to help her pursue her aspirations.
