Fighting water scarcity is Ministry’s priority (Agriculture Minister)

The Ministry of Agriculture, Water Resources and Fisheries will work to meet the challenges facing the agricultural sector in Tunisia, including water scarcity and adaptation to climate change, Minister Elyes Hamza said as he took office on Tuesday.

Appointed to the government of Najla Bouden on October 11, Hamza called to join efforts to meet the national duty to preserve and promote food security.

The action of the Department will focus on water scarcity, to present appropriate solutions to farmers and citizens, he added.

The ministry will work on preparing agricultural campaigns and on combating new diseases and the high cost of agricultural inputs.

As for the sector professionals, the objective is to improve the production capacity and productivity as well as the economic situation of farmers and fishermen, who are «the pillars of their sectors.»

«We count on experts within the ministry to raise the level of our agriculture,» he concluded.
