Figures show first signs of economic recovery (BCT Governor)

Figures show the beginning of an economic recovery, despite the difficult economic situation facing the country due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the Russian-Ukrainian war, said Governor of the Central Bank of Tunisia (BCT) Marouane El Abassi.

Speaking at the 6th Tunisia Digital Summit (TDS) which is being held on June 22 and 23 in Tunis, under the theme “Digital Maturity: Innovation, Data and Process Automation”, El Abassi pointed to the increasing number of travel bookings, agriculture production and remittances by Tunisian expatriates.

Concerning the absence of the electronic payment service “Paypal” in Tunisia, El Abassi said it is Paypal rather than the BCT which decides whether to operate in Tunisia or not.

The BCT Governor recalled the launch of mobile payment, calling on all financial institutions, banks and the Tunisian post to join this service so as to democratise financial inclusion and respond to global developments in this area.

Executive Director of the company organising the event (TPM), Skandek Haddar recalled that about 2,500 people are attending this annual summit which brings together decision-makers in the field of digital transformation in Tunisia and experts from the public and private sectors to learn about the latest developments, innovation and technological transformations in the fields of artificial intelligence, robotics and cybersecurity…

TDS will include 40 workshops and training sessions in the field of digitisation, in addition to a pavilion dedicated to startups in a bid to enable them to seize partnership opportunities, Haddar said.
