“FITA 2018” kicks off works

Works of the 1st edition of the “Financing Investment & Trade in Africa Forum “FITA 2018” which is held at the initiative of the Tunisian-African Business council (TABC) kicked off on Tuesday in Tunis, with the participation of 500 African officials and decision makers.

Tunisia aspires to access this promising market representing 2 trillion dollars and mobilise financing worth 200 billion dinars to fund intra-African trade and investment and thus help Tunisian investors and exporters to present and mobilise investments for their projects and programmes.

The objective is to reinforce the level of Tunisian trade with African countries, expected to reach 10% of the country’s total trade by 2020.

During the Forum, an African strategy for promoting exports and foreign trade on the African continent will be devised.

The two-day meeting is also an occasion to present offers and financing mechanisms on the African Continent, provide a space of opportunities and meetings between pan-African economic development organisations, bankers, venture capitalists, investment funds and experts to present emerging alternative financial solutions (capital development, crowd-funding, credit insurance) that can complement the traditional African banking offer and encourage closer ties between Tunisian banks and their Pan-African counterparts to facilitate access to financial services in Africa.

As part of the same event, a plenary session on government investment policies will be organised with the participation of officials from the African Development Bank (AfDB) and a number of heads of African financial institutions.

Wednesday’s session will be devoted to the consideration of several development issues in Africa, including the prospects for developing trade in Africa, policies to support intra-African trade, in addition to mechanisms to ensure the presence of Tunisian dinar on the African market and approaches to financing the public/ private partnership.
