Head of the United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL), Ghassen Salame, on Wednesday, welcomed the efforts made by Tunisia to facilitate the work of the UN mission in Libya.

“Despite the difficulties it has encountered, Tunisia has spared no effort for years to provide all the necessary facilities to enable the United Nations mission in Libya to move forward in its action,” he said at the end of his meeting with Foreign Minister KhemaAes Jhinaoui.

The meeting discussed best ways to help Libyans, speed up the political process in the country and ensure the establishment of permanent and stable institutions serving the various categories of the Libyan people, Ghassen Salame also said.

“The opportunity now seems very real for that,” he pointed out.

During this meeting, KhemaAes Jhinaoui affirmed that Tunisia is always ready to support and facilitate the work of the United Nations mission in Libya.

He also said he and his host discussed the road map resulting from the Skhirat agreement and the steps to be taken after the visit to Tunisia two days ago of prime minister of the Government of National Accord of Libya Fayez al-Sarraj and his meeting with President Beji CaAd Essebsi.

Ghassen Salame, of Lebanon, was recently appointed new special representative of the United Nations Secretary-General for Libya, replacing Martin Kobler.
