FM speaks with Greek counterpart over phone

Minister of Foreign Affairs, Migration and Tunisians Abroad Othman Jerandi, on Thursday, had a phone conversation with his Greek counterpart Nikos Dendias.

They discussed the development of the situation in Tunisia, in light of the exceptional measures announced by President of the Republic Kais Saied on July 25, said a statement from the Foreign Affairs Department.

The Greek Minister said his country is closely following the development of the situation in Tunisia, expressing Greece’s full support for the measures taken by the Head of State at this delicate stage.

He expressed his country’s confidence in the approach of the President of the Republic as well as in Tunisia’s ability to meet the political, economic, social and health challenges.

Jerandi, for his part, said these measures fall within the framework of the Constitution and aim at ensuring the sustainability of State institutions, preserving social peace and calming the political and socio-economic situation in the country.

He welcomed the positive impact of these measures on the population, since «they have succeeded in calming citizens’ anger at the deteriorating political situation.»

Jerandi affirmed the President’s commitment to upholding the democratic values, rights and freedoms, saying he is conducting wide-ranging consultations to develop a roadmap for the next stage.
