“Focus Japan” at City of Culture: cultural and artistic foretaste of upcoming TICAD 8 Summit in Tunisia

The Embassy of Japan in Tunis and the Opera Theatre will celebrate Japanese culture through the event “Focus Japan» to be held from November 26 to 28, 2021 at the City of Culture “Chedli Kelibi”, the embassy said in a press release.

This event is an invitation to the Tunisian public to discover the Japanese culture in its many facets in its both tangible and intangible cultural heritage and its contemporary artistic expressions.

The concert of drums by “Munedaiko” (group of Italian-Japanese drums) and the concert of “Syamisen and Koto” (Japanese traditional instruments) performed played by Hideaki TSUJI and Mieko MIYAZAKI in part collaborated with Ms. Srarfi are the main events of “Focus Japan”.

“Focus Japan” will offer the public of the City of Culture Chedli Klibi workshops of origami (the art of paper folding) and Ikebana (flower arrangement), a show of Kendo (martial arts), a roundtable around Japanese literature, a cine-concert Animeorchestra (followed by the screening of the film Demon Slayer) and several screenings of Japanese films in partnership with the Tunisian Cinematheque and the House of Novel.

The public will also have the opportunity to taste dishes of Japanese cuisine throughout the Focus.

The public is also invited to discover the work of choreographer Yasutake SHIMAJI who will be the guest of the Tunis Opera Ballet for a creative residency with the dancers of the Ballet.

“Focus Japan” is also a foretaste of the upcoming TICAD 8 summit (Tokyo International Conference on African Development) that the Japanese government has been leading since 1993, in cooperation with the United Nations, the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the World Bank and the African Union Commission (AUC). TICAD8 will be hosted by Tunisia in 2022. On the sidelines of TICAD 8, a rich cultural programme will be put in place.
