The City of Culture will host for the second time the Tunis International Journalism Forum set for March 17-19.
Initially scheduled in 2020, this 2nd edition placed under the theme “the Urgency of Journalism” was postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
This major event is organised by the French Association Journalisme et Citoyenneté with the support of several partners including the National Union of Tunisian Journalists (SNJT), the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO), TV 5 Monde, the Institut français de Tunisie, Media Up, a support programme for media in Tunisia, and many other Tunisian and international partners.
Debates at the City of Culture will focus on topical issues that represent an emergency for media handling. This includes mainly journalism in the face of the health emergency and climate change and Media and Information Literacy (MIL) .
“Focus Tunisia: State of Play of Journalism and Media” will be at the heart of a debate on journalism as actor of democratic emergency.
Workshops will focus on training in podcasting, journalists in the face of cyberstalking, deconstructing misinformation, start-ups seeking to change journalism in Tunisia, state of affairs and prospects for environmental journalism in the southern Mediterranean, investigative journalism, etc.
Access to internet in most fragile contexts, the exchange of good practices about community radio stations, the safety of women journalists in crisis settings, the use of constructive journalism to establish economic models and introduction to alternative media are also on the agenda.
The Institut Français de Tunisie will host debate meetings entitled “Beyond Words: the Art of Informing Young People Through Illustration” and “Journalism in the Maghreb, the Moment of Truth.”
The first Tunis International Journalism Forum was held on November 17-19, 2018, under the slogan “Journalism Useful to Citizens.” About 500 journalists from 30 countries attended the event.
The event is held annually in Tours, France, for countries of the northern shore of the Mediterranean basin. The event is held every two years in Tunis starting in 2018 for Southern Mediterranean countries.
