Food trade balance registers surplus of 219 MD in first 4 months of 2018

The food trade balance recorded, during the first four months of 2018, a surplus of 219.5 million dinars (MD), against a deficit of 490.9MD recorded during the same period 2017.

The coverage rate of imports by exports over the same period increased by 112.1%, compared to 67.4% in 2017.

This growth is due to the increase in the value of food exports of 100.6% compared with a 20.7% increase in food imports.

The surplus in the food trade balance helped improve the rate of coverage of the trade balance by 1.2 points, which reached 72.7% during this period.

Exports of food products jumped by 100.6% compared to the same period 2017 because of the doubling of olive oil exports (107 thousand tonnes against 32.7 thousand tonnes quantity, with a value of 1.016 MD against 284 MD).
