Former Army Chief of Staff Mohamed Said Al Kateb dies

Former Chief of Staff of the three armies, Army Corps General Mohamed Said Al Kateb, died on Thursday at the age of 82.

The late held several senior positions in the Ministry of National Defence and moved up the ranks and positions in the national army before being appointed Chief of Staff from 1990 to 1991.

Born in 1935, Mohamed Said Al Kateb had been part of the first promotion of Tunisian officers, after independence, of the French military academy of Saint Cyr, specialty armored vehicles, and had taken part in the Battle of Bizerte.

During his professional career, he had held the posts of Chief of Staff of the Minister of Defence and Military Attache at the Tunisian Embassy in Paris from 1981 to 1984, Inspector General of the Armed Forces, Chief of Staff of the Army from 1987 to 1990 before directing the three armies until 1991 and to be appointed Ambassador of Tunisia from 1991 to 1998.

He had presided over for many years the Tunisian federation of horse racing.
