Ashaiman: The Ashaiman District Court has convicted 54-year-old Kofi Boakye Frimpong, a former public officer, for falsely pretending to be a police officer in active service. The court, presided over by Mr. Derick Pardden Eshun, found him guilty based on his own plea to the charge of impersonating a public officer.
According to Ghana News Agency, Frimpong pleaded for leniency during the trial. However, the court decided to defer his sentencing, remanding him in custody with a reappearance date set for October 14, 2025. The prosecution, led by Inspector Henry Nartey Tetteh, detailed that Frimpong was apprehended by police officers from the Zenu-Attadeka Motor Transport and Traffic Department (MTTD).
The incident occurred on September 17, 2025, around 09:00 hours, when officers stationed at the Zenu Star Fuel Station stopped Frimpong. He was dressed in a tactical black long-sleeved police uniform with the rank badge of a chief inspector. Suspicious of his identity, the officers engaged him in conversation. During the interaction, Frimpong attempted to flee by jumping onto a motorbike and instructing the rider to speed off.
This action further raised the officers’ suspicions, leading to a chase that culminated in Frimpong’s arrest and subsequent transfer to the police station. Investigations revealed that Frimpong was a dismissed chief inspector who had relocated to Ashaiman but continued to wear a police uniform and present himself as an officer. The accused was charged with the offense as investigations continued.
