Four startups in Jendouba obtained Friday the Wild Tunisia label certification intended to establish an eco-labelling scheme that certifies economic development within Tunisia’s protected areas and nature reserves.
Speaking at a label launch event held at the Science City, lebelling expert Wafa Ben Hamida said the four start-ups are Agromatica, which specialises in forest honey production in Fernana, Tunaroma in Jendouba and Novaroma in Ain Drahem, which specialise in the extraction of essential oils, and Dar El Ain which organises hikes in Melloula , Tabarka.
This ecolabel, in full compliance with the principles of equity, sustainability and trust, is the result of the Wild Tunisia project launched in 2018 at the initiative of the World Wide Fund (WWF) North Africa (Tunisia).
The project, closed on Friday, was funded to the tune of 180,000 euros by Drosos Foundation, a non-profit, charitable organisation based in Zurich, Switzerland.. It seeks to improve the management of protected areas and natural sites of high ecological value by improving socio-economic conditions of operators .
Wild Tunisia label will facilitate the creation of new green and innovative jobs in and around these areas thanks to the certification of the products and services that are produced and supplied by young entrepreneurs in the respective regions.
