Gabes: Development works in Zarat Seawater Desalination Plant make 70% progress

Development works carried out at the Seawater Desalination Plant in Zarat (Governorate of Gabes) reached a progress rate of 70%, according to data provided by the National Water Distribution Utility (French: SONEDE).

The Zarat seawater desalination plant, whose production capacity will reach 50,000 m3 per day expandable up to 100,000 m3 per day, will help meet the growing demand for water, improve its quality and avoid the shortage of drinking water recorded in recent years during peak summer periods in the region.

The construction of this station, which will benefit more than one million inhabitants in the governorates of Gabès, Médenine and Tataouine. is part of the strategic programme to develop and secure water resources in the South-East region, by 2035.
