General Manager of the Gabes Environment, Planting and Gardening Company (SEPJ), Abdelsalem Bessissa, said that the company has prepared a thorough study on the production of fodder, notably the “Alfalfa of Gabes”, using thermal water or treated wastewater with an estimated production of 12.5 tonnes per hectare.
The official said that the project will be carried out on an area of 500 hectares adding that it will allow the creation of about 300 jobs in addition to the benefits generated for the company.
He mentioned that the Plantation and Gardening Company of Gabes in coordination with the Tunisian Chemical Group in the region is carrying out a second plantation of paulownias on an area of 900 hectares, with the aim of producing wood and reducing carbon dioxide emissions.
Bessissa explained that the only problem that prevents in the way of the achievement of the two projects is the provision of the necessary land by the supervisory authority, noting that the general management of the company has submitted several requests to this effect and is waiting for a response to these requests.
