Commercial phosphate production by the Gafsa Phosphate Company (CPG) reached 1.27 million tonnes in the first half of 2021 against an initial forecast of 2.1 million tonnes, acting central sales director Lotfi Hamdi said Friday.

This 40% decline compared to projections is due to the various protests observed by job seekers in the region Hamdi told TAP.

According to the same source, commercial phosphate production indicators have seen a marked improvement in Q2 with 300,000 against 120,000 in Q1 2021.

The CPG expects a production of 400 to 450 thousand tonnes per month in the second half of 2021, the official underscored, adding that the production of commercial phosphate will reach 500 thousand tonnes if Redeyef production unit resumes its activities that were suspended for a year.
