Gafsa-CPG: Five people arrested for suspected corruption

The investigating judge of the Gafsa court of first instance decided the arrest of 5 people for suspicion of corruption in the case of the public procurement of heavy machinery for the benefit of the Gafsa Phosphates Company (CPG) in 2019, worth over TND 12 million.

Among those arrested were a current executive at CPG, two former executives of the same company, an employee within the Ministry of Finance and the representative of a foreign company, Deputy Prosecutor and spokesman for the Gafsa courts Halim Abeda told TAP.

Those arrested are suspected of administrative and financial corruption by falsifying some of the terms of a public procurement for the acquisition of heavy machinery, an operation concluded in 2019 between the CPG and a foreign grouping for the manufacture and sale of heavy machinery.

The judge also decided to keep 4 individuals interrogated in the same case in a state of liberty, added Abeda, pointing out that the court is waiting for the results of technical expertise conducted by the Directorate of Intelligence and Research under the El Aouina National Guard before closing the investigation.
