Tarkwa: In a significant move to bridge the digital divide and equip young learners with crucial Information Technology (IT) skills, GASO Petroleum Limited has donated a range of digital tools to two basic schools within the Tarkwa Nsuaem municipality. The donation includes desktop computers, laptops, accessories, projectors, and pen drives aimed at enhancing digital literacy among pupils.

According to Ghana News Agency, the beneficiary institutions-Adieyie Municipal Assembly Basic School and New Tokunaso Basic School-received the donation as part of GASO Petroleum Limited’s community engagement and social responsibility initiatives. Mr. Isaac Asante, Managing Director of GASO Petroleum Limited, emphasized their commitment to supporting communities where they operate, including Obuasi, Tarkwa, Damang, and other mining areas in Ghana.

Mr. Asante highlighted the importance of ICT in child development, especially in today’s digital era. He stated, “We expect our pupils to have a strong foundation in computer s
kills by the time they enter the university, so it opens more career opportunities for them.” He also announced plans for the company to adopt the ICT department of the two schools to provide further assistance.

During the presentation, Mr. Asante pointed out that only 40 percent of basic schools have access to ICT resources. He called on other corporate entities to support the government in developing the country’s ICT sector. Mr. Stephen Adjei, Senior Manager-Sustainability, remarked on the positive impact of the ICT equipment on the learning experience and encouraged other contractors to follow GASO’s example in supporting host communities.

Mrs. Catherine Andoh-Mensah, Municipal Director of Education, explained the various benefits of the computers, such as improved access to information, communication, and enhanced teaching and learning. She noted that the initiative would make ICT education more tangible and enjoyable for pupils and foster a collaborative learning environment.

She expressed optimism that this initiative would provide pupils with essential skills in research, reading, and studying, ultimately contributing to a more knowledgeable and technologically adept future generation.
