(TAP) – Prime Minister Hichem Mechichi, on Saturday, decided to impose a general lockdown in the governorates where the infection rate is 400 cases for every 100,000 inhabitants, starting from Sunday, June 20, 2021.
This decision comes after the deterioration of the epidemic situation in the governorate of Kairouan, said the Prime Ministry in a statement released Saturday.
Regional quarantine centres will be created to receive positive cases and field hospitals will be set up to take care of cases while taking into consideration the supply of oxygen and carrying out tests.
The laboratories will also be strengthened to help them identify the COVID-19 variant, while stepping up the vaccination campaign, the same source said.
The Prime Ministry will also mobilise medical staff from other ministries to support the efforts of the Ministry of Health at the regional level.
The Prime Ministry has also decided to entrust the team currently in Kairouan with coordinating the operation of transferring patients between the various hospital structures at the regional level and between the governorates concerning serious cases.
It also decided to strengthen frontline structures for the early management of cases with the aim of promoting the quantity of oxygen.
