General strike in all Tunisian ports on April 26,27,28

The National Union Chamber of seaport services decided to observe a three-day general strike (April 26,27,28) in all ports of the Republic.

This decision was taken unanimously by the extended executive board held on April 19 at the headquarters of the Tunisian Confederation of Industry, Trade and Handicrafts (UTICA) and devoted to reviewing the file of enterprises specialised in docking, undocking and protecting the vessels as well as the professionals’ numerous concerns, the chamber said in a press release published on Friday.

Members of the extended executive board expressed on this occasion their discontent with the lack of seriousness of the Transport Ministry and the Office of the Merchant Marine and Ports (French: OMMP) when treating matters related to their enterprises.

They further denounced the ministry’s lack of interest to the letter addressed to the ministry on April 16 on the crisis of the vessels’ docking and undocking company, accusing it of opening the posts to intruders and unfair competition.
