ACCRA: An ambitious new initiative, the Ghana Science and Tech Explorer Prize (GSTEP) Challenge 2025, has been launched in Accra to empower the next generation of Ghanaian innovators and promote education in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Maths (STEM). The program aims to provide a platform for students to apply their STEM knowledge to solve pressing community issues across various sectors including agriculture, healthcare, education, and the environment. According to Ghana News Agency, the GSTEP Challenge 2025, supported by Fondation Botnar and implemented by partners such as DreamOval Foundation, the Partnership Bureau, Shulem Lake, and the Practical Education Network (PEN), has opened its application portal. The program invites Junior High School students from the Greater Accra, Ashanti, and Eastern Regions to submit their innovative STEM-based solutions to tackle real-world challenges. This year's theme, "Empowering the Next Generation of STEM Innovators," aims to inspire young Ghanaians to harnes s their potential in STEM fields to create impactful solutions for the nation's future. During the virtual launch of the program, Madam Olivia Serwaa Opare, Director of the Science Education Unit at Ghana Education Service, emphasized the critical role of STEM in shaping Ghana's future. She urged students to take advantage of this opportunity to demonstrate their talent and make significant contributions to their communities. Madam Afua Oforiwaa Asiamah Adjei, Executive Director of the DreamOval Foundation, shared her optimism about the future of STEM education in Ghana, noting the impressive innovations produced by young learners in past challenges. Mr. Siddhartha Jha, AI and Digital Innovation Lead at Fondation Botnar, highlighted the foundation's commitment to empowering young people globally. He expressed that by funding initiatives like the GSTEP Challenge, Fondation Botnar aims to equip young innovators with the necessary skills and opportunities to become leaders and changemakers in their communities and beyond.
