Accra: The Ghana Baseball and Softball Association has officially launched the 2025 National Baseball League season, marking an important milestone in the growth and promotion of the sport. The launch, which took place at Koshen Park in Labone, saw participation from four teams: Dodgers, Tigers, Shai Osudoku Hawks, and Tema Giant Hitters Academy.
According to Ghana News Agency, Mr. Ernest Danso, President of the Ghana Baseball and Softball Association, expressed pride in the association’s achievement, having overcome numerous challenges in recent years. He emphasized the significance of the league as a platform for talent discovery and growth, projecting Ghana’s strength on a global scale. Mr. Danso highlighted the association’s commitment to establishing a sustainable ecosystem that would attract investment, boost media visibility, and open up opportunities. He also hinted at ongoing discussions with clubs to establish an academy in Ghana to further the sport’s development.
The league season is slated to run from June to December 2025. Mr. Richard Akpokavie, President of the Ghana Olympic Committee, encouraged baseball athletes to embody the International Olympic Committee’s values of Excellence, Respect, and Friendship during the league. He underscored the importance of sports as a tool for youth empowerment and national development, urging broader participation from young athletes across all sports disciplines.
Mr. Albert Frimpong, a pioneer of Baseball and Softball in Ghana, advised athletes to maintain discipline throughout the league season. The event was attended by notable sports figures, including Mr. Bawah Fuseini, President of Ghana Athletics, Mr. Charles Osei Asibey, President of Ghana Armwrestling, Mr. Mohammed Muniru Kassim, GOC Secretary General, Mr. Owusu Ansah Asare from Ghana Cricket, and Mr. George Owusu Ansah from Sports for All.
