Ghana Overcomes Cote d’Ivoire to Qualify for U20 Africa Cup of Nations

LOME: The Black Satellites of Ghana have secured a place in the upcoming U20 Africa Cup of Nations after a 2-1 victory over Cote d'Ivoire at the Stade Municipal in Togo. This win not only maintains Ghana's unbeaten streak in the WAFU Zone B tournament but also ensures their presence in the finals of the competition. According to Ghana News Agency, the match began unfavorably for the Ghanaians when Cote d'Ivoire's Loukey Jaures scored in the 18th minute. Despite the early setback, the Black Satellites dominated the game but struggled to penetrate the Ivorian defense. The breakthrough came just before halftime, leveling the score for Ghana. The second half saw the Black Satellites intensifying their efforts, and their persistence paid off in the 54th minute when Jerry Afriyie successfully converted a penalty, giving Ghana the lead. Although the Young Elephants of Cote d'Ivoire pushed hard for an equalizer, the Ghanaian team held firm to secure their victory. With this win, the Black Satellites have automatic ally qualified for the next U20 AFCON. They now await the outcome of the match between Niger and Nigeria to know their final opponents. The 2025 U20 AFCON will also serve as a qualifying tournament for the 2025 FIFA World Cup in Chile, where the top four teams will earn automatic spots.
