BUDVA: The Black Rockets, Ghana's national youth boxing team, will participate in the upcoming International Boxing Association (IBA) Youth World competition scheduled to take place in Montenegro from October 20 to November 3, 2024. According to Ghana News Agency, the team is set to depart from Accra to Budva on October 18, 2024, where they will make final preparations for the championship. The Vice President of the Ghana Boxing Federation (GBF), Mr. Fuseni Dauda, expressed high hopes for the team's performance, emphasizing the importance of testing, trying, and exposing the new Black Rockets to international competitions to gain necessary experience. Mr. Dauda highlighted the self-motivation of the six boxers on the team but pointed out the need for government support to boost their confidence and ensure they are fully prepared to compete for the top prize at the tournament. 'Our game is about to rise again; we will take Ghana Boxing to the next level," he remarked confidently. Coach Charles Quartey also commented on the preparation of the team, stating that the focus extends beyond the IBA Youth World Tournament, with an eye on the next Olympic Games. He advocated for continued government support to enhance the team's international exposure. Additionally, Mr. Mustapha Nettey, Treasurer of the GBF, acknowledged the significant contribution of BOXUP to the Black Bombers' preparations. He expressed deep gratitude towards Dr. Philip Addison for his support, noting, 'We really appreciate what Dr. Philip Addison has done, and he will be remembered and blessed forever, because we have been looking for such support for a long time, and we know with his support we can go very far." The IBA Youth World International Boxing Tournament represents a significant opportunity for the Black Rockets to showcase their skills on a global stage and potentially elevate the profile of Ghanaian boxing internationally.
