ACCRA: Chizzy Wailer, the 2009 Reggae-Dancehall Artiste of the Year, has expressed optimism about the future of Ghanaian reggae and dancehall music, suggesting that it has the potential to win Grammy awards for the country. According to Ghana News Agency, Chizzy Wailer, who is also the National Organiser of the Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGA), emphasized that while the genre's potential has not been fully realized, the current generation of artists is promising. He highlighted the need for industry support to help these prodigies reach the international stage and compete for prestigious awards like the Grammys. "The future of Ghanaian reggae and dancehall is bright irrespective of all the challenges. The genre possesses some powerful messages, and I think it has evolved over time, but I won't say we are sleeping on it," Wailer said in an interview with GNA Entertainment. He added, "More artistes can take us to the Grammys looking at what they are doing in the industry now. The likes of Rocky Dawuni have s et the pace, and all they need is our support and not just praises but media, the industry to propel them to the Grammys." Wailer also called for increased airplay of Ghanaian reggae and dancehall music on radio and television to boost public interest and support for the music, which he believes has unique styles and potent themes that could represent Ghana well on the international stage.
