Ghannouchi meets French parliamentary delegation

Speaker of the House of People’s Representatives (ARP) met Thursday in Bardo with a French parliamentary delegation, accompanying the Prime Minister Jean Castex, who is visiting Tunisia on the 3rd Franco-Tunisian High Council for Co-operation.
Ghannouchi welcomed France’s constant support to Tunisia and its support for the democratic transition process in the country. He called to further boost bilateral cooperation in areas including migration and counter-terrorism “to foster peace, stability and cooperation between the two shores of the Mediterranean.
He also welcomed the historical and privileged ties binding Tunisia and France, and the desire to strengthen relations between the Tunisian parliament and the two chambers of the French parliament (National Assembly and Senate), so as to raise bilateral cooperation to the expected level in areas including the economy, investment, culture and science.
He also stressed the common concern to ensure the success of the XVIIIth Summit of the Francophonie to be held next November in Djerba.
The Speaker of the Parliament has also reaffirmed Tunisia’s constant position about the Palestinian cause, and its support for the Palestinian people in their struggle to establish its independent stage with al-Quds as its capital.
The members of the French parliamentary delegation reiterated the concern to consolidate relations with the ARP. They called for increased meetings and exchanges of experience at the level of inter-parliamentary friendship groups.
They stressed the importance of deepening the reflection on the bilateral cooperation and the mechanisms allowing to develop it further, and on the concretisation of the various agreements and joint projects, in particular in the fields of health and higher education.
They also reaffirmed France’s support for the transition process in Tunisia, and the desire to strengthen cooperation on migration and security in the Mediterranean basin.
The French parliamentary delegation includes the chairpersons of the Foreign Affairs Committees in the Senate Christian Cambon and the National Assembly Jean-Louis Bourlanges, the vice-chairs of the same committees Cédric Perrin (Senate) and Rodrigue Kokuendo (Assembly) and the chairs of the friendship groups France-Tunisia Jean-Pierre Sueur (Senate) and Jérôme Lambert (Assembly).
