Global aviation safety strategy needed (minister)

Transport Minister Anis Ghedira Friday said it is imperative to devise a global aviation safety strategy as part of a working plan involving all countries, in collaboration with the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO).

Tunisia joined the international and local civil aviation safety system after adopting a set of international conventions and charters, Ghdira told participants in the Regional Ministerial Conference on Aviation Security in Africa and the Middle East held in Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt on August 22-24 under the theme “Global Aviation Security Plan (GASeP): The Roadmap to Foster Aviation Security in Africa and the Middle East.”

The latest ICAO report said Tunisia’s safety performance indicator reached 81.75%, the Minister indicated.

On the fringes of the conference, Ghedira had talks with his Iraqi and Egyptian counterparts as well as several officials representing international and local civil aviation organisations. Means to strengthen transport co-operation were looked at.
