Accra: Workers of the Ghana Meteorological Agency (GMeT) have urged the government to address long-standing concerns over poor conditions of service, obsolete equipment, and unpaid overtime allowances.
According to Ghana News Agency, in a press release signed by Mr. Paston Ahenkan Egyir, Divisional Chairman, and Mr. Jessie Quaofio, Divisional Secretary of the Public Services Workers Union (PSWU) of the TUC, the workers appealed to the government to compel the Ghana Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) and Ghana Airports Company Ltd (GACL) to settle outstanding debts owed to the Agency.
The release, copied to the Ghana News Agency, followed an earlier petition to GMeT management and the sector minister. It said the unresolved issues were creating a difficult work environment and jeopardising critical national services.
The statement emphasized that the continuous neglect of the Agency and its staff by both past and present governments not only demotivates but also undermines the trust between the staff, management, and government. It noted that GMeT staff continue to struggle with rising living costs, leading to attrition and growing discontent.
The statement also mentioned that the Agency would explore all available options to press for action on its demands.
