Gold Stars Secure Top Spot in Ghana Premier League; Kotoko Held by Holy Stars

ACCRA: Bibiani Gold Stars extended their lead at the top of the Ghana Premier League standings by defeating Accra Hearts of Oak 1-0, while Asante Kotoko was held to a draw by debutants Basake Holy Stars in a dramatic Week 8 of the league. According to Ghana News Agency, Gold Stars' victory came courtesy of Samuel Atta Kumi, whose second-half goal ended Hearts of Oak's five-match unbeaten run. Hearts missed a crucial opportunity to level the score when Hamza Isaah failed to convert a penalty. As a result, Gold Stars now sit three points clear with 18 points, while Kotoko remains second with an unplayed match still in hand. In their historic first encounter against Asante Kotoko at CAM Park, Basake Holy Stars managed to secure a 1-1 draw. Albert Amoah's initial goal for Kotoko was equalized late in the game by Prince Tweeboah's impressive strike, ensuring a share of the points. Elsewhere, Dreams FC continued their struggles with a 1-0 defeat to Young Apostles, who moved further from the relegation zone. Dani el Lomotey scored the decisive goal, leaving Dreams second from bottom with only four points. Legon Cities, still winless this season, played out a goalless draw against Accra Lions. Nations FC emerged as the standout performers of the week, thrashing Vision FC 3-0 at the Dr Kwame Kyei Sports Complex. Faisal Chawetey's brace and a late goal from Richard Danso contributed to their commanding victory, placing Nations FC fifth with 13 points. The complete results for Week 8 include several draws and a notable 2-2 match between Aduana Stars and Medeama SC, adding to the competitive nature of this season's Ghana Premier League.
