Aflao: Madam Abla Dzifa Gomashie, the Member of Parliament for Ketu South Constituency in the Volta Region, has initiated the construction of a six-unit classroom block at Avoeme Basic School in Aflao. The project, when completed, aims to create a conducive environment to improve teaching and learning in the area.
According to Ghana News Agency, Mr. Nicholas Worklachie, the Municipal Chief Executive of Ketu South, on behalf of the MP, officially handed over contract documents to the contractor. He said the move marked the commencement of site preparation for the construction of the classroom block. ‘The official sod-cutting ceremony to mark the full commencement of construction will be performed by our MP, Abla Dzifa Gomashie in the coming days,’ he stated.
He explained that the project would be fully funded by Dzifa Gomashie through her share of the MPs Common Fund, to help uplift the standard of the school as well as improve the progress of education in the area. The construction of the six-unit classroom block is expected to significantly improve the learning environment and enhance access to quality education for pupils at the Avoeme Basic School.
‘The project is expected to be completed within nine months. The contractor has been urged to work diligently to ensure that the project is completed within the stipulated time frame,’ Mr. Worlachie said. The project has received support from various stakeholders, including the Municipal Assembly, the education directorate, and the Parent-Teacher Association, with collaboration deemed crucial to the project’s success.
He noted that the construction of the classroom block, when completed, would have a positive impact on the community by creating a better learning environment to enhance teaching and learning. The team of constructors, led by Ketu South Municipal Engineer Mr. Kingsley Oduro, who was tasked to oversee the project, promised to work within the stipulated period to address the pressing accommodation challenges within the school.
Some staff, PTA, and SMC members engaged by Ghana News Agency expressed joy over the project and promised to support the initiative to benefit the young learners.
