Bolgatanga: Residents of Sherigu in the Bolgatanga Municipality have called on the government to resume work on the Bolgatanga-Sherigu-Naaga road, a crucial link that remains incomplete five years after construction began. The 30.85-kilometer stretch, intended to connect several communities in the Upper East Region, has deteriorated into a hazardous path, disrupting daily life and economic activities. According to Ghana News Agency, the road was contracted to ARACO Construction Limited in 2018, with work commencing in 2019 and a completion deadline set for two years. However, the project remains unfinished, with the contractor ceasing operations and leaving the road in a state of disrepair. Stephen Akugre, the Assembly member for the Kumbilingo Electoral area, expressed the community's frustration, noting that the road's neglect has transformed manageable potholes into large water-filled craters, posing significant risks to commuters, particularly during the rainy season. Akugre emphasized the road's import ance as a vital trade route for transporting goods to urban areas and as a health corridor for accessing the Regional Hospital in Bolgatanga. The road's poor condition has hindered emergency medical transportation, potentially affecting patient outcomes. He voiced the community's discontent with the government's failure to ensure the road's timely completion and issued a 10-day ultimatum for ARACO Construction Limited to resume work, warning of a potential protest if no action is taken. In response, Robert Atule, Managing Director of ARACO Construction Limited, denied abandoning the project. He stated that work was ongoing until July 2024 but was halted due to the rainy season. Atule assured that the company plans to remobilize and return to the site by early November, once weather conditions permit.
