Grain harvest reaches 3.1 million quintals in Beja

The grain harvest in Beja governorate reached 3.1 million quintals in this agricultural season, higher than the regional agricultural structures’ forecasts and the average production in the region during the previous years, said regional commissioner for agricultural development Ali Melki.

The quantities of collected grains have exceeded 2.2 million quintals since the start of the harvest early June, i.e. 26% of the quantities of the collected grains nationally.

These quantities are stored in 40 collection centres in Beja, the same source pointed out, stressing however that the yield per hectare was not as efficient, ranging from 25 to 60 quintals/ha.

From over 139 thousand hectares sown in the region, several areas have been damaged due to the rainfall deficit recorded this year, he recalled.
