Greater Tunis among governorates that suffered most from thirst in 2022

The governorates of Greater Tunis (Tunis, Ben Arous, La Manouba, Ariana) are for the second year in a row, among the governorates that suffered the most water shortage in 2022, with 466 alerts citizens relating to water cuts, against 397 alerts in 2021, according to the Map of thirst published 2022 published by the National Observatory of Water.

During the past year, alerts about water access problems in 2022 reached 2299 alerts nationwide. They have focused on undeclared cuts by the National Water Distribution Utility (SONEDE), water leaks found in the distribution network and protest movements related to access to water whose number reached in 2022, 423 movements.

The governorate of Ben Arous has occupied the lead in terms of alerts on problems related to access to water with 233 alerts against 186 for Gabes and 184 alerts for Sfax.
