Tamale: The Senior Staff Association (SSA) of Ghana Grid Company Limited (GRIDCo) has raised concerns regarding the recruitment of external persons to fill key positions within the company over the past three years. The SSA claims this practice violates GRIDCo’s conditions of service.
According to Ghana News Agency, Mr. Wisdom Kojo Adenyo, Chairman of the SSA of GRIDCo, highlighted the potential negative impact of such recruitment practices. He noted that appointing new officers over more experienced and competent existing staff could lead to demoralization, disengagement, and reduced productivity among employees. Mr. Adenyo addressed these concerns during the 7th Biennial Delegates Congress of GRIDCo’s SSA, held in Tamale.
The three-day congress, attended by SSA members and some members of GRIDCo’s management, also served as an occasion to elect new officers to lead the SSA for the next two years. Mr. Adenyo emphasized the ongoing conflict between SSA leadership and management over breaches of service conditions, particularly concerning the recruitment of external individuals for key roles over the last three years.
He further explained that these recruitments not only contravene the company’s conditions of service but also have significant implications on GRIDCo’s wage bill due to the company’s low cash flow. Mr. Adenyo stressed the necessity of safeguarding the conditions of service, which are crucial for the survival and welfare of the staff.
In his address, Mr. Adenyo also mentioned several projects initiated by the SSA of GRIDCo, such as the establishment of the GRIDCo Credit Union (GCU) Scheme and the ongoing construction of the SSA Office. He encouraged members to participate in the GCU by purchasing shares, opening accounts, and starting savings deductions.
The elections held during the congress saw Mr. Adenyo retain his position as Chairman. Other elected officers include Mr. Guggisberg Asante as National Vice Chairman, Mr. Morrison Edem Essah as National General Secretary, Miss Vida Aheto Abakwam as National Assistant General Secretary, and Mr. Saani Sulemana as National Treasurer.
